ULU Group

2021

silk, wool, foam, steel

ULU Group is inspired by the idea of a circle trapped inside of a square. It represents conflict with no apparent solution. By adding a third dimension to its premise, there is potential for functional solutions. That’s the inspiration for this series. Each form is a circle extruding through a cube-like space, such as those occupied by furniture. Alternating between U-turns and L-turns, the resulting cylinders push against the boundaries of familiar typologies.

The forms are made of steel and foam. The surfaces are a custom-designed wool and silk blend fabric. The sheen of the silk accentuates the forms’ contours.

ULU Group is the ULU Chair (orange), ULU Duo, (mauve), ULU Table (brown), and Un (green).

The collection is the feature of an article on dezeen.
