BOYD Works, 2022

The name BOYD is a reordering of ‘body’, losing its original meaning while retaining an essential ‘body’ness. “I use the width of my thigh as the basis for the cylinders, so they’re like abstractions of myself.” Each cylinder is configured in a game-like approach to design. “What’s the most efficient way for a cylinder to become a chair?” The result is minimal forms that are sympathetic to the body.

Each object is hand-made using a different material, from latex, pvc rubber, polyurethane foam, silk fabric, glass and neoprene.

NUN Chairs (grape-green and black) have a minimal seat and low seat-back.  Perching the tail bone, it prompts its user to sit up-right. The grape-green NUN is made of steel and latex, and the black NUN is made of steel and neoprene.

UN (transparent gold) is a versatile furniture-type object, functioning as a ottoman or stool. Created in one curve that crests at a seat-standard height, the cylinder achieves a function through minimal configuration. UN is made of steel and aged industrial rubber tubing.

4M Chair’s (grey and mauve) form is composed of four movements of a bending cylinder. Its curves ascend to create a semi-seat and seat-back. The empty space in between is designed to nestle the posterior.

ULU XT1's cylinder flows through a pattern of U-turns and L-turns, Through a minimal course of movement, it touches the essential points for becoming a table's armature. The armature is made of steel and neoprene. The table top is a glass box, its width proportioned to the flowing neoprene cylinders.
